Crystal

beta GPU renderer for 3ds Max · Cycles engine

Renders your Corona scenes on an NVIDIA GPU with no conversion: materials, lights, scatters and tone mapping carry over by themselves. At equal noise it is 4–48× faster than Corona on a 24-core CPU.

What Crystal does

Your Corona scene renders as it is

Corona materials and maps

CoronaPhysicalMtl, Legacy, Layered, Light, Select, Volume, plus Physical, PBR, glTF, Multi/Sub, Blend. Maps with no Cycles equivalent are baked by 3ds Max itself.

Lights and sky

CoronaLight, CoronaSun and CoronaSky, HDRI in CoronaBitmap, window portals. A light tree for scenes with thousands of lights.

Corona tone mapping

Exposure, ACES OT, Filmic, contrast, saturation, white balance, LUT, vignette. Same values as in Corona.

Scatters and decals

Forest Pack Pro, RailClone, Chaos Scatter, CDecal, Corona Proxy.

Its own frame buffer

Final and interactive renders in one window: LightMix, passes, Region, A|B compare, save to PNG and EXR.

GPU ActiveShade

Interactive rendering with the same settings as the final frame. DLSS Ray Reconstruction for a fast preview.

Photon caustics

Photon-mapped caustics and dispersion in glass and water: light from glasses and pools comes out clean.

Denoisers

OptiX and DLSS. Stop a render at any time and get a clean picture, not a fragment.
